Why subscribe?
We are early stage deep tech investors with a focus on Europe. We combine scientific, entrepreneurial and economic experience to fund the best emerging startups in Cryptography & AI + Longevity & Biotech.
We believe the main reason is that to be a good deeptech investor, you need to both understand the technology in depth and identify opportunities when they are still in the lab. You need the point of view of a researcher, of an entrepreneur and of an investor at the same time. Luckily, we possess all three (and more!).
About Us
First up: Rand Hindi
I am a deeptech entrepreneur and investor. I founded two deeptech startups and invested in dozens of others.
I currently run a company called Zama, using homomorphic encryption to secure data in the cloud. Previously, I was running Snips, a privacy-centric voice assistant that was acquired by Sonos.
I started coding at 10, created by first startup at 14, got into AI at 18 and did a PhD in bioinformatics when I was 21. I hold a BSc and PhD from UCL in London, and graduate degrees from THNK and Singularity University.
I am a lecturer at Sciences Po in Paris, where I teach a class on privacy by design. I was formerly part of the French Digital Council, where I advised the government on their AI policies. I am also an advisor at startups and publicly companies, helping them shape their deeptech strategy.
I am an MIT “35 under 35”, a Forbes “30 under 30”, and a frequent public speaker in Europe and the US. You can watch some of my talks here.

Next: Kyle O’Brien
I’m an American based in Paris (over 5 years now!). I spent my early career in “Big Tech” and then moved swiftly into the realm of startups/entrepreneurship (four startups in total, two in the US / 2 in Europe). In 2021 I started a newsletter called
writing about tech and investing in France and Europe; I later launched a podcast interviewing founders and investors in the region.
I ended up joining a growth fund as an operating partner and eventually met Rand when he was a guest on my podcast. I’ve always been a physics/space nerd and felt comfortable getting into the trenches with early stage founders (as a a seasoned entrepreneur myself). Rand and I decided to join forces and started investing as a team at the beginning of 2023.
What to Expect Here
We only share deals that we personally invest in and for which we have a high degree of conviction. We typically invest in Pre-Seed, Seed and Series A rounds, predominantly in Europe and the US.
We will often write about the companies we invest in, frameworks to help outline our thinking in a certain area, or uncovering new technology breakthroughs we view as important and relevant for our investment thesis. We’ll also share links to other content we produce (namely, our YouTube channel where we host live streams regularly).
